We were on Destiny May 2007, had an fantastic cruise, linked it to a stay in Barbados. Ship account is in dollars and usually paid by registering your credit card when you emmbark. We did not buy many drinks in the bars but we had wine every night in the resaurant and it cost between $29 and $32 including tax and gratuity which is added automatically to your bar bill. Have a great time.

The on-board currency on Carnival Destiny is the U.S.Dollar and yes drinks are pricey, as they are on any cruise-ship - that's where cruise lines make their serious profit...on things like drinks and photos and the onboard shops with pretty trinkets! So you learn to curb your consumption. It's only a week or so.
