Marittima is the largest of the ship basins at the Port of Venice's Venezia Terminal Passeggeri. You can walk to Marittima from the Piazzale Roma in 10 to 15 minutes. Just follow the road that leads to the causeway and turn left at the port entrance after you cross the railroad tracks. If you're adventurous and aren't hauling luggage, you can save time by walking along the sidewalk street below the southwestern edge of the Piazza (past the Garage Comunale) until you reach an old steel footbridge with a sign (in Italian) that says "authorized persons only" or words to that effect. This will lead you to Marittima's back entrance. Warning: The bridge is rusty with holes and patches, so walk carefully and avoid the bridge if you're heavy or wearing high heels. Also, the port police may not let you use the bridge from the Marittima side, probably because the cruise authorities don't want to be responsible if you fall through.

I forgot - there is a left luggage office in Piazzale Roma so you can leave your stuff there at the end of the cruise, no need to go to the train station. Basically, if you walk from the grand canal, cross the very busy road, you need to keep the big white building on the right and the bus station on the left. Just keep walking along the side of the building, past the ticket office for the airport bus and past the souvenir shops, as if walking to the back of the building, and it is on the right hand side, next to the Pullmam Bar andit costs €4 per item .

To reassure yourselves log onto Google Earth and zoom in on Venice. Move across to the railway station (upper left) and Piazzale Roma is the large open square below on the other side of the large canal to the left of the trees (you can make out the roofs of the buses). To the left you can see a ship in dock, although your ship may be on the opposite side (where there is a smaller ship tied up). Hope this helps. It has helped me because we are considering a cruise from Venice but going out a day early with Easyjet and staying in Venice overnight. Doing this is much cheaper than opting for the cruise lines (MSC) flight supplement (and we have a pleasant evening in Venice prior to the cruise) Have a nice time, .
