Partial transit normally means that the vessel goes through Gatun Locks, cruises around Gatun Lake and then departs back through Gatun Locks and back out into the Caribbean Sea.

A full transit is you go right through the 3 locks from Caribbean to the Pacific or vice versa. Partial transit is you go through 1 set of locks (Gatun), you turn round at Gatun Lakes and exit again.
