WE have cruised 4 times now and always use the Soda option, it works out really cheaply if you are going for longer than say 4 days. My children are 6 & 15 and they both made v good use of it. They give you a special 'cup' on board and a sticker so you don't need to carry the 'cup' with you. It covers all fizzy drinks coke lemonade orange soda etc. We recently went on the Navigator and they had some free soft drinks in the restaurant but not fizzy. We preferred to use the 'cup' option. Hope this helps.
