On our cruise Jan. 07, first shore excursion on Hilo Hawaii was "Land of Frozen Fire" This is the newest land on earth, forms of lava in the shape of the ocean waves. Walked across it to the ocean- a sight to behold. Next excursion was on Maui. Took the tour up to Haleakala crater. The view was enormous and breathtaking. Travelled by charter bus up 37 miles to almost 10,000 ft. We were above the clouds. Used as a backdrop in the movie Star Wars. Also Maui Ocean Centre, had various fish, sharks, rays, etc. Kids really liked it. You also have to take in a Luau. I won 2 tickets on the ship. Went to Pacific Paradise Luau on Maui. Danced on stage to "Hukilau". The feast was amazing. Various dishes of Lomi Lomi Salmon, teriakyi steak, mahi mahi fish, kula greens with papaya poppy seed dressing, hawaiaan fried rice, poi, sweet potato, pork and cabbage. Most everything was delicious. Our last excursion was on Kauai. Took the Hollywood in Hawaii tour. 5-6 hours. Saw Cocopalms where Elvis filmed his movies, Gilligans Island beach setting, Opaekaa falls, Wailea falls is famous in movies also, Hanamaula Bay, Kong mountain. It was very relaxing and the coach ride, driver and escort were very informative. There were many more excursions to take but you don't have time for them all and you want to enjoy your ship too. All of these tours made sure you were back to your ship in plenty of time for sailing. Enjoy your Cruise. jm.

Try e mailing Alexshuttle@hawaii.rr.com for trips out of Nawilliwilli and he has a company he can recommend in Maui approx $45 pp. Honolulu try VIP tours outside the dock and there are many mini buses doing tours at the dock in Hilo, all very reasonable.

Helicopter flight over the volcano at Hilo. Wonderful! One point. Early morning flight slots get cancelled sometimes due to bad weather or poor visibility, so try to pick a mid-morning one. Company we chose - booked from the ship - was Blue Hawaiian Helicopter.
