This is a question I have been thinking of asking myself, we were due to go on a cruise with ASC on the Royal Star on 14th April 2008 but it was cancelled 10 days before departure due to, so we were told, the propella falling off! We were offered a later travel date but declined, seems like we did the right thing.

Just seen this site, went on a cruise on MV Royals Star about seven years ago. One of the best, if not the best, cruise we had been on. Certainly not 5 star but the crew were brilliant the ship only had 250 passengers and the itinery was amazing. I am so sorry to hear that it is no longer sailing because of the updates needed. Very sad.

I think so. I was ready to book for 28th july and then they cancelled. Was going for the 4th of august but spoke to a very young girl as ASC who said she couldn't say for sure the ship would sail. As they have 12 hotels in Kenya I had visions of being put in one of the hotels for 2 weeks. However have just booked to go on the Nautica with Oceania cruises and they look fantastic. Got a great deal. Reviews are excellent. It is round the med but a lovely itinary. The service etc look fab. The ship is quite small which is what we wanted. Hope you found another cruise.

The Royal Star is tied up alongside in Kilindini harbour Mombasa. A court ruled a few weeks ago that she be put up for sale because the ship was in debt and the crew had not been paid. They have now left.I have the newspaper cutting. We were on her last voyage to South Africa a few months ago and I have seen her since, as we live in Nairobi / Mombasa. I Have quite a lot of information about the RS. She was launched in 1958 as the San Giorgio and still has her original Fiat Diesel engines. If you wish to know more about her you can phone me on Nairobi 722087 after 21 Septmember. I also have many pictures of her. My email address is . Regards Jeremy Rowe .
