Find Your Cruise
Generally speaking the starboard side going up and the port coming back. but normally she does stay with the port side facing the glaciers but I'm sorry to say this is not always true and they normally dock facing in different directions in the ports. So really either side is a good side....Leanne Down.
When we were going on our Alaskan cruise a few years ago, one of the first questions we asked to some officers on another cruise was "it is worth having a balcony stateroom on an Alaskan cruise." Popular consensus was no, and the reason for this is the best place to be when going through the inside passage is on deck. The Captain will call out where the wildlife is and if you are on your balcony, you can bet your life the wildlife is on the other side of the ship. You can miss so much if you stay on your balcony. Definitely invest in a decent pair of binoculars, you will need them to see bears in the distance. Also take warm clothing because the weather is so unpredictable, freezing one day and warm the next, and make sure you have an umbrella with you. The scenery is breathtaking, you'll have a fantastic time.
